St Leonards Chess

  • Hello, welcome to St Leonards Chess.
    The site is maintained by Andrew McGettigan and documents chess activity for children and adults in St Leonards-on-Sea and the eastern end of East Sussex.

    In term-time, Andrew runs a Wednesday night club for juniors at the St Nicholas Centre on London Road. We have children aged from 6 to 16 and aim to cater for all abilities. It is primarily a social affair, but we do offer some light coaching for the stronger players. We can also introduce absolute beginners to the game. But please contact us in advance! We have limits on the numbers we can accommodate, so have to use the online booking system.

    Andrew can also offer private coaching up up to “expert” level. He is the current Hastings club champion (with a score of 7.5/8) and is an experienced tutor and coach (not just in chess). He has beaten Masters, and even IMs at bullet and blitz, including the 8-move victory below.
